Prosperity: How to be Wealthy and WELLthy

Do you ever feel like the traditional teachings surrounding the topic of Prosperity fall short of hitting the mark? Are you finding it difficult to experience consistent and repeated results when applying the teachings? If so, you’re in good company. In fact, that’s what led us on a several-years-long exploration of what Prosperity Principles really are and how they can be applied. This is a summary of where we are right now with what we have discovered — and if you think we are a little renegade — you’re right!

Because all the traditional definitions focus on money, we started out by creating our own definition around prosperity as it relates to money:

You are prosperous when you never have to do something you don’t want to do just because of money,
and never don’t do something you want to do just because of money.

But that still kept the focus on money, and outer events … so we dug a little deeper and came up with this:

Prosperity is the soul growth we attain when we align our human nature with our Divine Nature.

Exploding Some Popular Myths About Prosperity Principles

Our exploration has led us to critically evaluate the way Prosperity is being taught, and we’ve identified four myths we want to explode … and replace with Prosperity Truths. Are you ready? Better take a deep breath, because these are going to knock your socks off!

Myth #1: The 10-Fold Return. We are told that when we give (money, of course), we will get a 10-fold return. What’s wrong with this concept? For one, it doesn’t work consistently — in fact, very rarely can a person actually track a 10-fold return to money that has been given. Secondly, it cannot be replicated. If something is a true Principle, it is a constant.

The Prosperity Truth: There is a cycle of Receiving and Giving, which creates the experience of constant flow in our lives. It is important to enhance our ability to give … and to learn how to receive. If either is blocked, it interferes with the Cycle and we experience appearances of lack in our life.

Myth #2, and closely related: Tithing. We call it “Tithe Thing.” The idea is for us to give 10% to the source of our Spiritual Good. (Of course, we give this knowing we will receive a 10-Fold Return — see Myth #1). The tithing concept (specifically mentioned in the Books of Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy) is a system organized in a three-year cycle, corresponding to the Shemittah-cycle. These tithes were in reality more like taxes for the people of Israel and were mandatory, not optional giving. This tithe was distributed locally “within thy gates” (Deuteronomy 14:28) to support the Levites and assist the poor. Very different from what is taught these days! The current practice of these first two myths is actually a form of Entitlement Thinking, where we give, hoping we receive a benefit — or we give out of a sense of guilt.

The Prosperity Truth: Giving increases our Consciousness of Giving, because we only give from a belief that we have plenty. If we are going to use the word TITHING at all, our preference is to restructure the word into an acronym to reflect Truth:

T = The

I = Indwelling

T = Truth

H = Harmoniously

I = Increases

N = Never-ending

G = Gratitude

Myth #3: Affirm It and It Will Manifest. Okay — now we’re getting seriously close to heresy, right? Who could possibly challenge the concept of Affirmations? Well, we can — at least in the way the concept is often taught. People are led to believe if they affirm things strongly enough, these things will manifest. And while they are waiting, go ahead and act “as if.” The problem is, people literally act “as if,” and spend money they don’t have on things they are not prepared to have! And when things don’t manifest immediately, they are put on guilt trips of having said the affirmation incorrectly or insincerely. Seriously?

The Prosperity Truth: Things do not become true because we affirm them; we affirm things because they are TRUTH! This means we must ground our thinking and affirmations in Truth, knowing the essence of Truth will always manifest for us when we open our minds to the flow of Divine Ideas. We firmly believe that Prosperity is an inside job. It is a Consciousness … a way of Being … not material possessions.

Myth #4: Our Good Comes To Us. The problem with this statement is two-fold. First, it implies there is some kind of Divine Timing already set in place that orchestrates when our good will show up; secondly, it clearly reinforces the error thinking that “someone out there” (most likely an anthropomorphic God in the sky) will send us our good when “He” is good and ready to do so.

The Prosperity Truth: Our Good comes THROUGH us! Divinely ordering our Good is a conscious process of allowing our prosperity to flow through us. It’s recognizing that Divine Substance is available to us each-consecutive-moment-of-now from the Field of Infinite Potential!
